  • Mario is now canonically a god, he can go through the written rules of the universe in the form of level tiles and modify them as he pleases. But Mario is also a chaotic god, as he can leave a wake of destruction and disarray in his path.

Both? You're aware this game came out in many many more places than just the USA and Japan right?

  • Is this Mario defying the development gods? What would it be like for to go behind the scenes of reality like this? What would it look like if we got there?

  • Game Boy glitches in general are always really fun, but this one was always the one that fascinated me most of all. Just the idea of having your character, in a very literal sense, explore the game's memory space and directly change in-game variables simply by interacting with it as usual… I mean, there must be an actual game concept somewhere in here, right? I would totally play a game based on this.

  • I have super Mario land 2 for gameboy but I guess I have the version 1.2 because I can’t do the glitch no matter how many times I attempt. 😭

  • Can we call 4 hex digits ending in FFF xfousand? Like at 3:53, the WRAM would be located between Cthousand and Dfousand

    DukeCyrus July 15, 2020 2:03 pm Reply
  • The real question is

How do people discover those things?!?

And by the way you’re smart for explaining how does the “glitch” work

Eric Camargo July 15, 2020 2:03 pm Reply
  • It would be neat if there was a game that had memory hacking as a technique you had to use to finish the game. Like, it could play like a regular game, but you could also glitch into the active memory (with relative ease)… and that would open up a whole bunch of extra levels and powers, if you could figure out how it all worked… as well as the "true" ending of the game.

  • So my question is, if breaking the blocks directly manipulates the data, does breaking the wrong blocks permanently corrupt the data? Could you totally ruin the whole cartridge from doing this? Amazing video btw, I love how well you explain things.

  • imagine falling out of bounds would let you access the other parts of ram on your pc… punching blocks in minecraft is changing hex values in windows and other programs 😀
