Nexus 7 & Game Emulation – Gameplay & testing + wiimote control

Just a little vid demo of Classic game console emulators & MAME on the Nexus7, using wiimote control & a wii classic controller pro (the gold one, why not? 😉 )

So far I’ve tested the Nexus 7 with MAME, Gameboy, aka GB & GBC, Gameboy Advance aka GBA, Super Nintendo aka SNES, Nintendo 64, aka N64, SEGA Master System aka SMS, Sega Mega Drive aka Sega Genesis, and Sony Playstation aka PSX – all work just fine.
The PSX Emulation is a little jittery but quite playable, the N64 emulation is smooth as butter – but in some games the textures are a bit “jankey”, nothing that impacts playability.

Wiimote Controller form C.C.P. Cre@ions can be found here;

WiimoteController is an application which allows a Wii remote to connect to your Android phone. You can then use the Wii remote to control various apps.

Please do NOT ask where to get ROMS, where to download ROMS or similar questions, you will be ignored – if you can’t figure this out on your own you’re too much of a NOOB to be screwing with this stuff.

  • Pokemon Ruby Version. You can tell because the character is dressed with red accents. Emerald has green accents, and Sapphire has blue.

  • You only need the control, Stephen. I've used both the app he is using for Wiimote plus one of the paid apps and actually this free app works better (just FYI).

  • hit the back key on your screen to exit out of that bluetooth pairing menu. Press the Init and connect button within the wiimote app and press the 1 and 2 buttons on the wiimote simultaneously. It will tell you on in the dialog box if it was successful.

  • I'm amazed that a tablet can run an N64 emulator with good framerate. I'm glad I chose this over the iPad mini

  • If you look at the video there is in fact a slight lag between button press and action on this device. This is an issue on pretty much any device connecting to something with bluetooth.

This will not be an issue though unless he is playing something like Kaizo where it might be a slight issue.

  • Hey mate, just a quick question, I noticed on a lot of other tablets that there is a slight but distinct latency between pressing a button on the gamepad and the actual action on screen. This is obviously utterly annoying. Most casual gamers wont notice this but nerds like us can and will.

Is this an issue on the Nexus in combination with the emulator?

    mistervanderveer July 14, 2020 11:40 am Reply
  • Damn, now if there was just some way to play multi-player, it would be perfect!

    Morahman7vnNo2 July 14, 2020 11:40 am Reply
  • Ruby and Sapphire I'd say emerald but the headband was red not green.

  • Oh yeah! Donatello for TMNT! Good choice sir. Definitely getting this device if the new Nexus doesn't come out in the near near future. 😀

  • Why would you root an android device for a emulator? Are you serious do you see an apple logo on this device >.>. The obvious answer to your question is no.

    MetalYorkie July 14, 2020 11:40 am Reply
  • It's actually either Ruby or Sapphire, because the main character's head band has red markings instead of green ones.

And yes, it makes a difference.

  • Just one question….what version of jellybean were you running on the nexus 7 at the time of this video? I'm having a lot of problems running both Mupen+AE and N64oid on jellybean 4.2.2. Both emulators are updated to their most current version. Thanks
